President Joe Biden, two former presidents, and one former presidential candidate visited the nation’s capital Friday to attend the funeral of Colin Powell.
Biden and his wife, Jill, attended the funeral for Powell, the former secretary of state who died on Oct. 18. Former Presidents Barack Obama and George Bush, along with 2016 Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and former first lady Michelle Obama, were also in attendance. Former President Bill Clinton was not able to attend due to recovering from an infection for which he was briefly hospitalized last month.

Powell, 84, died from complications with the coronavirus last month despite being fully vaccinated. As the United States’s first black secretary of state, he was appointed to the Cabinet post under the Bush administration from 2001 to 2005 and served as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under former President George H. W. Bush from 1989 to 1993.
